Willie Campbell Obituary

Mr. Willie Elijah Campbell, 54, of Southern Pines, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at First Health Hospice House in West End, North Carolina.

Willie Elijah Campbell was born on April 18, 1968, to Wanda Jean Campbell and Willie E. Sheard. Willie was brought home to his loving and doting grandparents the late David and Alberta Campbell.  He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandmother, Ziffie Hines Covington, stepfather Andrew Jones, and uncles Elijah “Buddy” Campbell, James English, and John Shaw. He departed this life on January 19, 2023, after a seven-year battle with cancer.

Willie was well-loved by all who knew him. He loved his family.  From a young age, he developed a strong work ethic by doing yard work with his grandfather. His favorite thing was attending family dinners every fourth Sunday at Aunt Birtha’s.

Willie attended Southern Pines Elementary and Southern Pines Middle Schools. He graduated from Pinecrest High School and was a proud member of the class of 1986. Willie had a love for football. He played little league, middle and high school football. He was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Willie joined First Missionary Baptist Church. No matter where life took him, this was his home. He sang in the male choir, was a member of Soldiers for Christ, church security, and was Armor Bearer to Pastor Joshua Haire. He was a faithful member even when his health was failing. Willie loved the Lord. Even in pain, he would be on his post, cane and all.

Willie was a Mason and Eastern Star. He was a member of Cornerstone Lodge #67 and Golden Star #84. He was a past Worship Master of Cornerstone Lodge #67, Worthy Patron of Golden Star #84, and Council Patron for District 26.

Willie always had a smile. He was always trying to make someone else feel better. He checked on family, friends, and church members even when his own health was failing. He loved life.
Willie was employed at Totally Committed Diabetic Supply in Southern Pines.

Willie leaves to cherish his fiancé, Sandra Dunn; his mother and stepfather, Wanda and Ronald Cameron; his children Willie Campbell Jr., Michael D. Campbell, George E. Owens Jr., and
Lawanda Campbell; step-children Jeremy Chavis, Joshua Chavis, and Joanna Armstrong; sisters Bertha Mae Mincer, Tara Sheard, Shaniele Sheard, and Willette Sheard; brothers Gregory Bauldrick (Sharon) and Vincent Bauldrick (Linda); aunts Birtha C. Shaw, Linda C. English, and Venus Campbell; nieces Tyhera Mincer, Salah Lucas; nephews Devon McMillan, Delmarquis McMillan, and Decorian Lucas. Cousins he considered siblings Shuris Campbell, Victoria Campbell, Michael Cameron (Tijuana), James Upchurch, and Lori Knight (David). He also
leaves a host of younger cousins he called his nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
