Willie Alston Obituary

Mr. Willie R. Alston, 96, of Southern Pines, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at his residence.

Eternal rest, Eternal peace Heavenly promises sent to those who live in love and serve, enjoy a life well spent. His life of love and service impels our hearts to sing. “O grave, where is your  victory, O death, where is your sting.”

Willie Ralph Alston was born on March 15, 1927 to the late James Alston Sr. and Jessie Fikes Alston. He transitioned to his heavenly home on February 4, 2024.

His sisters, Louise Watson and Bernice Boggett, and brother, James Alston, preceded him in death.

Bill graduated from Washington High School in Raleigh, North Carolina. After high school, “Billy Boy” as he was so lovingly called by his wife Sedra, signed up with the United States Marine Corps and served as a Military Policeman in Saipan. His duties were to guard the prisoners of war and to defuse live bombs. World War II was coming to an end. After being honorably discharged, Bill  moved back to Raleigh. Bill then moved to Queens, New York, for the lack of job opportunities in Raleigh.

He was always a strong, determined man and had a heavy voice. Bill purchased his first home when he was only 30 years old. He served 23 years with The United States Postal System and  was given two extra years of credit for his service in the Marines.

Bill married Sedra Jones Alston on December 14, 1991. They enjoyed 33 years of marital bliss. Bill loved the Lord and took his relationship with God very seriously. Bill and Sedra prayed together and separately with God answering most of their prayers. Bill served on the Senior Usher Board at Calvary Baptist Church in Queens, New York for over 25 years.

He loved watching wrestling with a passion. He’d bang on the chair’s arm and yell, “get him, get him!” Bill also loved saltwater fishing. Every chance he got, he went to the pier. He was a jokester  and loved laughing, which blended well with Sedra’s personality. His niece Priscilla Alston Morrison said, Bill was the life of the party.”

He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife, Sedra Jones Alston; his son, Wilbert Clark; a grandson, Eric Clark; a granddaughter, LaDonna Clark Thomas (Fred); a great-grandson, Logan  Thomas; stepchildren, Lewis Grinnard, Jr., and Nicole Grinnard Williams; step-grandchildren, Tyler Williams, Brandon Williams, Dakota Grinnard, and Noah Grinnard; and a host of many nieces,  nephews, other relatives and friends.

Please keep the family and friends of Mr. Willie R. Alston in your thoughts and prayers.

Arrangements are entrusted to McLeod Funeral Home of Southern Pines, North Carolina.
