Mr. Tilmon Lloyd, 85, of West End, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 4, 2024.

Tilmon Lloyd was born on June 24, 1939, to the late Thomas and Hattie Cole Lloyd in Marlboro County, South Carolina. He spent most of his early years working on his grandparents’ farm.

In 1957, he left the farm life and moved to a little community called Smoke in Pinehurst, NC. Tilmon started working in the golf course maintenance department at the Pinehurst Resort, where he remained for 51 years. His hard work and dedication gave him the honor of becoming the first African-American supervisor for the Pinehurst golf course maintenance department. During those 51 years, he missed a total of only eight days.

In 1959, he met the love of his life, Margie Pearson, and one year later, they were married. They were blessed with one daughter, Juanita.

Til, affectionately known as “PaPa,” was a loving and kind person. He loved his family, motorcycles, fancy cars, and hosting his famous annual cookouts, which drew crowds from near and far.

He accepted Christ on May 2, 2024.

Tilmon transitioned into eternal rest peacefully at his home on October 4, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Phyllis Ann Mason.

He leaves to cherish many fond memories, Margie, his loving wife of 64 years; his daughter whom he adored, Juanita (Bernard) of Charlotte, NC; his two beloved grandchildren, James “Bernie” of Chicago, IL, and Breeanah (Curtis) of Charlotte; a cherished great-grandson Xavier; one brother, Rufus Cole of Taylortown, NC; an aunt, Queen Guillard of Green Pond, SC; an uncle, Edgar Cole (Barbara Jean) of Southern Pines, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
