Mr. Thomas Joseph Worthy, 67, of Hampton, Virginia (formerly of Vass, NC), entered into rest on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Sentara CarePlex Hospital, Hampton, Virginia.
Thomas Joseph Worthy (affectionally known as Tommy), son of the late Otha & Myrtle Worthy of Vass, NC, was born December 21, 1954, in Pinehurst, NC, and gained his heavenly wings on March 29, 2022, at the Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, VA.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn “Shirley” Worthy.
Tommy was educated in the Moore County School System and graduated from Union Pines High School in Cameron, NC in 1972. Upon his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany & Fort Lewis in Washington.
After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, Tommy worked in various fields from construction to driving long-distance trucks; however, his true passion was cooking and grilling… and we all know that he could do his thing in the kitchen and on the grill.
To make a better life for himself, he relocated to Hampton, VA, and was employed by the VA Medical Center as a chef which was his passion. He recently hung up his apron and took a new position in the Transportation Department as a driver. He joined Zion Baptist Church, where he was an active & proud member of both the Usher Board & Transportation Ministries. He was also a devoted member of the New Horizon Music Ministry, which is made up of U.S. Military Veterans.
While in Hampton, his life became complete when he met Michele Dixon and they were united in holy matrimony on January 28, 2021.
His spirit and personality were larger than life, and he can never be replaced. There will forever be a hole in the hearts of his family and friends, who were constantly entertained by his stories, good cooking, card playing, and Santa impersonations on Christmas Eve for his great-great nieces and nephews. He indeed was the life of the party.
Tommy was truly loved by everyone who ever met him; he was a great husband, a fantastic brother, a phenomenal uncle, and a best friend to everyone he met.
Tommy leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Michele Dixon Worthy of Hampton, VA; sister, Lisa Chavis (Bobby) of Vass, NC; two bonus daughters, Shanelle Jones (Brandon) & Candice Babb (Tye) of Newport News, VA; three nieces, Theresa Robinson (Marvin) & Marilyn McCrimmon of Vass, NC and RaShetta Chavis of St. Louis, MO; two nephews, Reginald Worthy (Marsha) & Brian Chavis of Vass, NC; three great-nieces, Gwen Garcia-Leach (Jimmy) of Sanford, NC, Nazaria McBryde (Archie) of Cameron, NC and MaKyla Worthy of Vass, NC; six great-nephews, Chris Garcia of Aberdeen, Jonathan Garcia, Kelvin McCrimmon, Curtis McCrimmon, Travis McCrimmon & Reginald McCrimmon all of Vass, NC; a special aunt Beatrice Perez and special cousin Ruby Faulk; and a host of cousins, good friends, and other relatives.
