Mrs. Thelma Seymore, 95, of Atlanta, Georgia (formerly of Hoke County, North Carolina) entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 2, 2026, at A.G. Rhodes Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Atlanta, Georgia.
Thelma Gilchrist Seymore was born on August 25, 1930, to the late Will and Mattie Gilchrist in Hoke County, North Carolina.
Thelma was the middle child of Will and Mattie - sharecroppers who lived in Red Springs, NC. She grew up on the farm with her brothers William Dewey, Curtis, Freddie Jr. , Willie (June), Neil and her sisters Mildred, Pauline, Reva, Lucille and Hazel. All of her siblings have been called home to glory but one (Pauline McKayhan).
Thelma married Jeffie Seymore in New York City, where they met after the Second Great Migration of the 1950’s. Both new to the north, their union gave birth to a new generation of Gilchrists and Seymores: Phyllis Joan Henry, Matthew Seymore, and Michelle Martin. They resided in Saint Albans, New York, in the borough of Queens.
On February 2, 2026, in the early morning hours, Thelma was called home to join her heavenly family: first son Earl Horace, her husband Jeffie Jr., her parents and her nine siblings.
Celebrating her gracious and humble life alongside her husband, she helped raise four of her grandchildren, Kianna, Darryl, and Tasha Henry, along with Tyler Martin. She met everyone where they were. In addition, she opened her home to a number of foster children over the years. She met everyone where they were. As a youngster, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and cooking for her siblings alongside her mother.
Those left to cherish her memories are one son, two daughters, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will continue to carry on the legacy of this family unit.
She will be missed but never forgotten.
Please keep the family and friends of Mrs. Thelma Seymore in your thoughts and prayers.
Arrangements are entrusted to McLeod Funeral Home of Southern Pines, North Carolina.
