Mr. Steven Garrick Smith, 45, of Southern Pines, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
Steven Garrick Smith, the son of Tina Gillis (Steven) and Victor Woodard (Carla), was born on May 9, 1980, in Pinehurst, NC. On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Steven was suddenly called home to rest with God at the age of forty-five.
Steven, also known as “Phat Kat” by many, was a beloved Dad, Son, Brother, Grandfather, Grandson, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin, and Friend.
Steven attended Moore County Schools. He enjoyed playing sports, learning carpentry, and working with his grandfather and other family members. He was a great cook, enjoying making special dishes and researching new recipes. He later moved to Raleigh, NC, to help his uncle with his business, which he really enjoyed. He attended Covenant Christian Church in Vass, NC.
He loved being around his grandparents and older family members to gain the wisdom and knowledge they had and to share it with him. His prized possessions were his children and three grandsons.
Steven was such a jokester and had a good personality. Most of his friends who knew him like a brother or a sister knew what you were going to get: “the love he had for sneakers, clothes, and his love for dressing.”
Steven was preceded in death by his grandparents, Douglas and Pearl Smith, and by Matthew Woodard and Myrtle Verbal Woodard, and by a brother, Wendall Hailey.
Those left to cherish fond memories of Steven are, his parents; his bonus father, Steven Jones; five children, Xzavier Graham, Jaynia Cain, Lamya Hodges, Zumarian Little and Onyx White; two sisters, Dee Dee Ewings (Randy) and Sharon Hailey (Nikka); two brothers, Victor Woodard Jr., and Aunta McNeill; three grandchildren, Kaden Hodges, Ka’san Hailey, and J’ream Grier; three very special friends; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other friends.
Please keep the family and friends of Mr. Steven Garrick Smith in your thoughts and prayers.
Arrangements are entrusted to McLeod Funeral Home of Southern Pines, North Carolina.
