Ms. Shereese LaShay Washington, 41, of Spring Lake, North Carolina (formerly of Sanford), entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Shereese LaShay Washington “Pooh” was born on February 16, 1983, to Deborah Gilchrist and Robert Ortega, Sr. Shereese transitioned from her earthly home on June 26, 2024, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Shereese graduated from Western Harnett High School in 2001. She furthered her education at Central Carolina Community College and graduated with a double Associate Degree in Forensic Science. She completed her education at Columbia Southern University in Orange Beach, Alabama, receiving her Bachelor’s in Applied Science in Criminal Justice.

Shereese was a loving person who loved her family. She was an excellent mother to her three angels. Shereese was a gifted artist and excelled in drawing many pictures for Pastor Alice. She  had some favorite sayings, such as “I know that’s right” and “You are SP.”

Shereese was a very faithful member of Works for Christ Christian Center, where she served and loved her pastor/cousin, Dr. Alice Hooker.

Shereese was preceded in death by her brother, A’darrin Jonte Washington; her Maternal grandfather, James Clarence Gilchrist; her great-grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Jessie & Mary McDougald, and Mr. & Mrs. George V. & Mary Alice Gilchrist.

She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Ashleigh, Jordyn, and Kattie; her mother, Deborah Gilchrist Washington; her father, Robert Ortega (Flo); her step-father, Charles  Washington; her brothers, A’Ricus Washington, Rio Ortega (Jasmine) and Robert Ortega, Jr. (Shalena); one sister, Ashley Ortega; her grandmothers, Shirley Gilchrist, and Rosa Ortega
Bacon; aunts Shirley Kelly Parsons, Sharon Fowler (Tyrone), Vicky Gilchrist, and Stephanie Malone; uncles, Rodney McKeithan (Terri), James Gilchrist (Willette), Edwin Kelly (Terri) and Lamont Gilchrist (Symetra); two great aunts, Ellen Brewington, and Luvenia Gilchrist Jones; her great uncle, Chester Stubbs; special cousins, Ka’Tasha, JaKita, Ebonee, Donietta, Portia, and A’shaunted (god-mother to Jordyn); a special god-mother to her daughters, Patricia Simmons; those dear to her, Teresa Harris, Shamekia Powell, and Monica Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
