Mrs. Shelia Marie (Shields) Winston, 68, of Vass, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 19, 2026, at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care in West End, North Carolina.  

Shelia Marie Winston, a wife, dedicated mother, much-loved sister, and treasured friend. On June 19, 2026, Shelia's name was proclaimed in Heaven and immediately ushered from this world to a place far beyond the sky - her eternal home.

Born on May 6, 1958, in Pinehurst, North Carolina, Shelia was the adored daughter of the late John and Parthenia Shields. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law Sarah Winston, and her sisters Mary Frances, Bertha Shields, and Apostle Linnie Saunders.

The warmth of Shelia’s love and the depth of her compassion will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. She is survived by her husband, James Winston, who was her partner in life for many years. Her love will endure in the lives of her sons, James T. Winston and Jeremie Winston, who were the epitome of joy in her life. Shelia is also remembered by her brothers, Melvin Malloy, Willie Malloy (Dixie), Thomas Shields, and Larry Shields (Angela); her sisters, Alice Robinson, Aleen Herring, and Jean Shields; sisters-in-law Alice McNeil and Annette Winston; aunts, Rosa Malloy and Margaret Malloy; uncles, Henry Shields and Charles Malloy; daughters-in-love Gina Winston and Dr. Tiffany Graham, and a multitude of nieces and nephews, who will all dearly miss her presence.

A proud graduate of Union Pines High School's Class of 1976. Shelia dedicated her life to caring for others. She worked faithfully at First Health Moore Regional Hospital as a Certified Nursing Assistant for over 30 years, with many of those years spent within the Reid Heart Center. Her colleagues and patients knew her for her caring heart, beautiful smile, warm eyes and a word of prayer—a testament to her commitment to healing and nurturing those in need.

Beyond her professional life, Shelia was an active member of the New Direction Outreach Ministry in Vass, NC, where she served as an usher, found spiritual fulfillment and community. Her faith and generosity extended beyond the church walls, as she freely offered words of encouragement, often sharing in life’s joys and challenges with those she loved.

Shelia found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as tending to her garden, taking long walks, weekend trips, and spending precious moments with her children and family. Her family fondly remembers her meandering for hours in Belks, spending an hour or more chatting with a friend in Lowes, and often showing up late to scheduled events. Her late arrivals stopped bothering us – we knew to expect it. Her sincere, open heart was a lighthouse of love that embraced all who knew her.

As we celebrate Shelia's life, we remember her as a woman of unwavering faith, boundless love, and quiet strength. Her legacy of kindness and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
