Mr. Sandy Ray Cox, 71, of Queens, New York, (formerly Sanford, North Carolina) entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, in Queens, New York.

Sandy Ray Cox of Sanford, North Carolina, departed his life on January 31, 2023, in New York City. He was born on January 5, 1952, in Sanford, North Carolina, to the late Bernice Douglas and Garner B. Cox, Sr.

Sandy was preceded in death by one brother, the late Garner E. Cox, II (Jeanette) of Delaware.

Sandy graduated from Broadway School in Broadway, North Carolina, and began working for the North Carolina Department of Corrections. In Sandy Ray’s youth, he loved his car and loved to dress in nice fancy clothes. He took great pride in both. In addition, Sandy Ray took great pride in his family and was especially protective of his sisters. (He ran many potential suitors away.)

Then an unthinkable loss took place. Sandy lost his beloved girlfriend, Brenda Murchison. After that, every aspect of his life changed. First, he relocated to New York City to be closer to his mother, sisters, and brother. That is where he stayed. He had many health challenges but never forgot about the love of family.

Sandy is survived by three sisters, Cynthia Cox and Patricia Lewis both of Bronx, New York and Dorothy Lane of Huntersville, North Carolina; a brother, Albert Haywood (Pam) of China Grove, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to mourn his loss.
