Rev. Charles Ray Moody, 84, of Aberdeen, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at St. Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
Charles Ray Moody was born on August 21, 1940 to the late George Moody and Johnsie Moody Gabriel in Kannapolis, NC. He departed his temporary home and moved to his eternal home on February 1, 2025, at St. Joseph of the Pines Rehabilitation Center.
He was a graduate of G.W. Carver High School in Kannapolis. He also took courses with the Shaw University Divinity Extension School.
At an early age, Charles joined First Baptist Church in Kannapolis under the Reverend A.J. Brewer. He later confessed a calling to the ministry. He preached his trial sermon at First Baptist Kannapolis and was later ordained at First Baptist church by Reverend A.J. Brewer.
He was employed for many years and retired from Richmond Senior High School in Rockingham, NC.
He pastored at several churches in North Carolina, retiring after his tenure at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist in Gibson, NC. After retiring, he served as a fill in pastor for many churches.
He was a member of the St. John Missionary Baptist Education Association. He served a term as Moderator of the Association. He also worked with the churches and pastors in the Pee Dee Missionary Baptist Education Association.
He met and married the former Renee Ferguson. They made their home in Aberdeen, NC.
“ChaRay”, as he was lovingly known by his siblings was one of eight children. He was predeceased by his parents, a grandson, Raheem Carr, two brothers, William Moody and George Moody,
and three sisters, Mildred Washington, Eva Wilkinson and Eunice Wiggins.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Renee of the home; children Charles Moody, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Mosi Taylor-Brown (Sherman) of Chesapeake, VA, Vincent Howie of Maryland and Mignon Cuy of Rochester, NY; two sisters, Johnsie Tucker (Avery) and Geraldine Holder, both of Kannapolis, NC; three grandchildren Shicole Carr, Sierra Brown and Montgomery Brown; five great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and many friends, in and out of the ministry.
