Regina Jean Cornish Saunders, 79, of Matthews, North Carolina (formerly of Moore County) entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 30, 2026 in Matthews, NC. 

Regina “Jean” Saunders was the eldest of the five children born to the late George and Hallie Cornish on July 30, 1947, in Goochland, VA. She departed this life on July 30, 2026, at her sister’s  home in Charlotte, NC.

Regina received her education in Brooklyn, NY. She later relocated to Southern Pines, NC, and met and married her loving husband, Robert Howard Saunders, on July 22, 1989.

Regina and Robert relocated to Cumberland, VA, where she rededicated her life to Jesus Christ.

For many years, Regina was a devoted nanny whose love, patience, and compassionate heart touched the lives of countless children and families. She found great joy in caring for others and  was known for her kindness, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication. Her special bond with Marty Prevette, her sister, Ann Bell, and family continued throughout her life.

Regina was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers George Jr., Cornell and Tyrone Cornish.

Those left to cherish fond memories of Regina are, her loving sister, Rondel Saunders of Charlotte, NC; her loving nieces, Davida Powell of Charlotte and Consuela Cornish of Southern Pines,  NC; her nephew, Cedric Cornish of Durham, NC; three great nieces, Teonna, Olivia and Zoey all of Charlotte; three great nephews, Nicholas Cornish of Winston-Salem, NC and Davion and Aiden, both of Charlotte; her close cousins, Ava Jackson “Shorty,” Lloyd Dandrige, Issac Dandrige and Connie Duell; her childhood friend, Delores Mendelson; her special friends in Cumberland,  VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
