Ms. Rebecca Doris McKeithen, 69, of Fresno, California entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 12, 2024, at VA Medical Center in Fresno, California.
Rebecca “Doris” McKeithen, 69 passed away at the Fresno VA on July 12, 2024. She was born on February 10, 1955, in New Brighton, PA and was raised in Beaver Falls, PA.
Doris is survived by her sisters, Antoinette Deborah McKeithen-Samuel, and Dr. Yvonne Kim McKeithen; her brother, William Howard McKeithen; a maternal aunt; a great-paternal aunt, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rebecca June (Griswold) McKeithen and Bernest Howard McKeithen, and a sister, Angellette Joy Ferguson. At the time of her death, she resided in Frenso, CA.
After graduating from Beaver Falls Senior High School in 1974, she enlisted into the Army. She proudly served our country from November 1974 to July 1980, rising to the rank of E4. While enlisted she worked as a telephone switchboard operator. Doris spent much of her service time stationed at Fort Mead in Maryland and Fort Ord in California. After honorably separating from the Army she resided in Monterey, CA where she earned an associate degree. In 1989 Doris was hired by the county of Fresno, working for DSS as an eligibility worker, in specialized units such as the Refugee Unit and Income Eligibility Verification. She retired in 2010 after working for the agency for 21 years, leaving behind several friends, with whom she maintained very close friendships until her death.
In addition to her love for her family and friends, Doris had a profound love for God. She grew up as an active member of Christ Temple Church of God and Christ in Beaver Falls, PA, a church founded by her late grandfather, Elder Thomas Griswold and supported by her late grandmother, Missionary Rebecca Griswold. She was a faithful and active member of Saints Community Church of God in Christ, in Fresno, CA. for 23 years, where she served as a Missionary. Spreading the Gospel was an essential part of her life. She strove to live each day by example, while taking every opportunity to teach about Jesus Christ and the Christian faith.
