Mr. Raymond Lavelle Poindexter, 57, of 804 South Long Drive, Rockingham, North Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Pruitt Health of Rockingham, North Carolina.
Raymond Levelle Poindexter was born on May 19, 1963 to the late Raymond Lee and Velma Worth Poindexter in Rockingham, North Carolina.
"Little Raymond", as he was lovingly called by his family, spent his childhood and adult years in the Rockingham, North Carolina and Halifax, Virginia communities. He received his education from the Richmond County and Halifax County School Systems, and graduated from Halifax County Senior High School in June 1982.
During his youth, Raymond accepted Christ and started his Christian faith-walk; uniting with his mother's family church, Wall's Chapel. Raymond was active in Sunday School and the Youth Drama Ministry. During his stay in Halifax, he joined his father's family church, New Hope CME Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. His faith walk would grow and blossom as he was baptized and joined the fellowship that weekly bible studies offered. It was his heart's desire to remain connected to his family church. He believed in the power of fervent prayer.
Raymond was a member of the Cub Scouts which brought him great joy. His classmates recalled that he kept him entertained. He had everyone laughing on the school bus. He even got suspended from school for singing Michael Jackson songs in class. He said he knew he was already in trouble, so he kept going until he finished his song!
Raymond was an honest and kind soul with a happy go lucky spirit, and he took pleasure in life's simple things. He loved his family and delighted in spending time with them. He loved eating a good meal, especially from KFC, and washing it down with an "iced cold Pepsi". He enjoyed watching TV, especially wrestling. He liked taking naps. He had a real talent for skinning wild game. He could gut a squirrel in 5 minutes, and would lick his chops the entire time, imagining how delicious that squirrel would taste when it was cooked! This skill that would serve him when he worked at meat processing plants as a knife sharpener.
After a lengthy yet valiant battle with some health challenges, Raymond made it to Victory, entering God's perfect peace on Saturday evening, October 24, 2020 at the Pruitt Health - Rockingham. He now joins the heavenly ream with those who preceded him; his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Raymond leaves behind a legacy of faith, friendship and perseverance that we will long remember. We are grateful for the life Raymond shared with us. His love for God, love for family, loving spirit, and dry humor will serve as a pillow of comfort for those who are blessed to have known him.
Arrangements are entrusted to McLeod Funeral Home of Sanford, North Carolina.
