Raymond Lee McLeod Jr. Obituary

Mr. Raymond Lee McLeod Jr., 78, of Carthage, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 6, 2024.

2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

Raymond Lee McLeod Jr., the first of three descendants of the late Raymond McLeod Sr. & Hattie Street McLeod, blessed the world with his presence on July 31, 1945, in Vass, North Carolina. He departed this life on January 6, 2024, at his home in Vass.

Raymond attended Pinckney High School in Carthage, NC, and graduated in 1962. After graduating high school, he chose to serve his country and joined the US Army in September 1962. He also attended Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, NC, where he earned a degree in philosophy. Shortly after, he followed in his father’s footsteps and began his trucking career. For many years, he worked for Standard Trucking Company in Aberdeen, NC. Then, he started his own trucking company (RLM Services). He traveled extensively all over the United States until his health began to decline in 2019.

Raymond’s legacy was his ministry. He accepted his call to the ministry in July 1971; his love for the Lord was undeniable. He began his journey at New Hill Freewill Baptist Church, in Bennettsville, SC, where he pastored for eight years. He then continued his journey at Harnett Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Dunn, NC. He later relocated to Wilmington, NC, to pastor at Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Bolivia, NC, where he served for 22 years. He loved all of his church families dearly.

Raymond leaves to cherish his loving memories, his daughters Monica McLeod of Vass, NC, and Kelli McLeod, of Virginia Beach, VA; one brother, James Harvey McLeod of Vass; one sister, Dr. Deborah McLeod Vasquez (Jose) of Fayetteville, NC; one aunt, Ms. Lillie Margaret Curtis of Clevland, Ohio; four grandchildren, Jilvonna McLeod of Vass, London Hashim of Fayetteville, Jarin  McLeod of Vass, and Zhana McLeod of the home; five great-grandchildren, Pharaoh Hashim, Vera McLeod, Ava McLeod, Jah’ire Barbee, and Jett McLeod; and a host of nieces and nephews and  other relatives and friends that he loved dearly.

Please keep the family and friends of Mr. Raymond Lee McLeod Jr. in your thoughts and prayers.

Arrangements are entrusted to McLeod Funeral Home of Sanford, North Carolina.
