Minnie Payton Obituary

Mrs. Minnie Kate Payton, 83 of Southern Pines, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, North Carolina.  

Minnie Kate Payton was born in Dillon, South Carolina, to the late Ida Mae and Mack Neil Ford. She attended the public schools of Dillon County, South Carolina.

Minnie confessed Christ at an early age and became an active member at New Bethel of Dillon, South Carolina. While at New Bethel, she met the love of her life, Bishop Leroy Payton Sr. They got married on April 10, 1966, and five children were born to this union.

The Paytons moved to Southern Pines, North Carolina, where Minnie worked in the Moore County School System for many years. Later, she worked at Proctor Silex/Hamilton Beach until she retired.

Mother Payton loved to cook and sew. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for you. She loved her children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.

Mother Payton was preceded in death by her husband, Bishop Leroy Payton Sr.; her son, Pastor Leroy Payton, Jr.; her granddaughter, Denecia Watkins; her best friends, Mildred Harrington and Mary Wallace; her godson, William Derrick Gant; three brothers, Cleveland Ford, Joe Louis Ford and Mack Albert Ford, two sisters, Hattie Jane Ford and Betty Ann Ford and two sisters-in-law, Annie Bell Ford and Emma Ford.

Mother Payton leaves to cherish fond memories, her children, Laretha Payton of Salisbury, Maryland, Luretha McAllister of the home, Delicia Watkins of Pinebluff, North Carolina, Antonio Payton of Salisbury, Chris Payton (Sarah) of Pinebluff and Matthew Carllson of the home; one daughter-in-law, Linette Payton of Southern Pines, North Carolina; a special son, James Gant of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters, Gertrude Jones and Ella Bethea both of Mullins, South Carolina; six brothers, Elder Archie Ford (Sherri), Elder McNeil Ford (Beatrice) and Curly Ford (Marceil) all of Latta, South Carolina, Nathaniel Ford of Dillon, South Carolina, Bishop Neil Ford (Michelle) of Florence, South Carolina and Robert Ford of Mullins; one sister-in-law, Mary Broadnox of Dallas, Texas; one brother-in-law, Kelvin Jackson of Waco, Texas; seven grandchildren; fourteen grandchildren; a special daughter, Sekeya Durgan; two special sons, Pierre McAllister and Scott Watkins; a special godson, Malik Shaw; special friends, Mr. & Mrs. James Purdy and Becky and Carrier; her Christian Victory Center Church family; and a host of nieces, nephews, adopted children, other relatives and friends.
