Melvin Malloy Obituary

Mr. Melvin O. Malloy, 76, of Carthage, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 20, 2026 at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care in West End, North Carolina. 

Melvin Otis Malloy was born on October 16, 1949, in Pinehurst, North Carolina. He entered into enteral rest on July 20, 2026.

Melvin was born to the late Johnsie Hall and Parthenia Shields. He was raised by his grandmother, “Mama” Anna Bell Malloy, and his grandfather, Gust Malloy. 

He attended Pinckney High School  in Carthage, North Carolina. Melvin’s employment included Pinehurst Resort, Little River Country Club, and Sandhills Community College, from which he  retired. He was a very hard-working man. For leisure, Melvin enjoyed playing golf and cards with his friends.

Melvin was preceded in death by his mother and father, his stepfather, John Shields, four sisters, Bertha Shields, Apostle Linnie Saunders, Sheila Winston, and Annie Pearl Hall, and one brother,  Willie Hall.

Those left to cherish fond memories of Melvin are, his children, Anna Ray of Carthage, NC, Melvin Jr., of Wilmington, NC, John Lee Ray of the Addor Community in Pinebluff, NC, Renne Malloy of Hoffman, NC, Rosa Blue (Chris) of Vass, NC, Jermaine Ray of Raeford, NC, and Tanesha Ray of Southern Pines, NC; two bonus daughters, Tanya Smith and Erica Williams; three brothers, Willie  Malloy (Dixie), Tommy Shields and Larry Shields (Angie); three sisters, Alice Robinson, Aleen Herring and Jean Shields; two aunts, Rosa Malloy and Margaret Malloy; one uncle, Charlie Malloy; 
twenty-five grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild on the way; a good friend, Garland Ingram, who he really enjoyed hanging out with; a special brother-in-law and  best friend, Raymond Herring, who lived in the home with him; a cousin, Martha Malloy, who always cooked for him and kept her promise to Melvin’s mother, Anna Bell, that she would take care of him; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
