Marzella W. Hairston, 64, of 407 Courtland Drive, Sanford, NC, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 31, 2020.
On July 5, 1955, Marzella Williams Hairston was born to Linnie Stringfellow and the late Leroy Newby in Sanford, North Carolina.
Marzella was a happy and funny child with many nicknames such as Lil Bit, Tootie, and Z. She was always with her aunties and uncles; they grew up like sisters and brothers. However, Marzella was very close to one particular aunt named Alice Spruill, aka Twin; they were inseparable.
At a very young age, Marzella accepted Christ into her life. She was a faithful member of East White Oak Baptist Church in Greensboro, North Carolina. Marzella attended Grimsley High School in Greensboro, North Carolina. Earlier in life, Marzella married the late Albert Bobby Hairston.
Marzella had many jobs. She was a dedicated worker at Green Ford until she became ill. Later, she took the time to volunteer at the Maggie and Erma House, which was a faith-based recovery house. While volunteering, Marzella became close friends with the director of the program, Josett.
Marzella loved to do crossword and dot to dot puzzles, shopping at Five and Below, watching television, and having bible study faithfully every week with her friends Josett and Rosalind in her spare time. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her mother and eating her favorite white grapes and coming back to her roots in Sanford, North Carolina, spending time with family and friends.
Marzella leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Linnie Stringfellow; two brother, Donald Stringfellow (Sandy), and Neal McAuley (LaToya); her sisters, Linda Chalmers (Cletus), Brenda Stringfellow, Sandra Sutherland (Ralph), Kecia Couch (Fred), Diane Fuller (Bobby), Maxine Newby, Mary Newby and Jackie McAuley; her aunts, Evelyn McAuley (Williams), Martha Cain (Robert Sr.), Mary McAuley, Edith McAuley (John), and Alice Spruill (Archie); her uncles, Elijah Williams, Ernest Williams, Albert Williams (Mary) and James Williams; one step-son, Frank Ruiz (Karen); three step-daughters, Julia Hairston, Barbie Hairston Woods (Kenny), and Nicole Hairston; numerous grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Marzella was preceded in death by a grandmother, Eva McDuffie Williams, a grandfather, Eddie Williams, Sr., three uncles, Wilson McAuley, Levi McAuley and Eddie Williams, Jr.
Arrangements are entrusted to McLeod Funeral Home of Sanford, NC.
