Mrs. Mary Jane (Petty) Battle, 91, of Sanford, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Liberty Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Lee County, North Carolina. 

Mary Jane Battle made her heavenly transition surrounded by her family on January 26, 2025, at Liberty Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Sanford, NC.

Mary Jane Battle was born to the late Estella Petty on August 31, 1933, in Sanford. She was married to the late Albert Battle for over 60 years.

Mary Jane joined Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. She loved her church and her Pastor. Until her health failed, she worked faithfully in the church, serving as a Deaconess, member of the kitchen committee, singing in the church choir, member of the Usher Board, and member of the Pastor’s Aide committee. She enjoyed attending Sunday School and Bible Study. Mary Jane loved the Lord and the Word of God.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was humble and never complained. She enjoyed gardening and spent a lot of time planting flowers. She also loved spending time with her family. Mary Jane was always willing to assist family and friends in any way needed. Mary Jane had a caring and loving spirit. We are all really going to miss her. We are blessed and grateful that God allowed her to spend so many years with us. We are thankful for all the valuable life lessons that she taught us. May she rest in peace alongside her husband, Albert T. Battle.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Albert T. Battle, her sons, Charles and John Battle, her mother, Estella Petty, her brothers, Charles and Fletcher Murchison, and son-in-law,  Pete.

She leaves to cherish her love and memories, four children, Stella (Edward), George (Ella Mae), Mary Alice and Donnie Ray (Renee); seventeen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren;  as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
