Martha (Smith) Bacon

Mrs. Martha (Smith) Bacon, age 86, of Temple, Georgia, formerly of Southern Pines, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Tanner Hospital in Villa Rica, Georgia.

Martha Marie (Smith) Bacon, affectionately known as “Tootsie” was the first born to the late Ernest and Bessie Smith, in Moore County North Carolina. She transitioned from this earthly life into her heavenly one on October 25th, 2023 at Tanner Hospital, Villa Rica, Georgia.

She was a graduate of Pinckney High School in Carthage, North Carolina, a student of cosmetology and later earned her degree in nursing. She was also a talented seamstress.

She married the late Martin Bacon of Claxton, Georgia and together they raised six children and made their home in Newington, Georgia. As an active church member she played the piano for  the church choir. Being so many things to different people, daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed.

She leaves her devoted children Sherryl Bacon, Temple, Georgia; Terry Bacon (Mae), Newington, Georgia; Taneeta Bacon (Federico Nina), Summertown, Georgia; Marqueita Jones (Vernon), Memphis, Tennessee; Angelia Bacon, Carrollton, Georgia; Christy Bacon, Memphis, Tennessee. Grandchildren: Martin T. Bacon, Statesboro, Georgia; Makayla Bacon, Statesboro, Georgia; Brook  Bacon (Shalagh), Nashua, New Hampshire; Joseph Jones (Monique), Memphis, Tennessee; Sarah Gossett (Kwayne), Memphis, Tennessee; Benjamin Jones, Memphis, Tennessee; Rachel Jones, Atlanta, Georgia Terri Alford (Benjamin), Atlanta, Georgia; Brandon Cain (Jasmine), Douglasville, Georgia; Angelia Bishop (Alan), Senatobia, Mississippi; Monica Cooper, Norfolk, Virginia.

Siblings: One sister, Cynthia McQuitter, Hoffman, North Carolina; three brothers, Anthony Smith (Lillie), Raeford, North Carolina; Jeffrey Smith, Palm Bay, Florida; Keene Livingston, Hoffman,  North Carolina.

She also leaves a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
