Mrs. Maggie Ree (McLeod) McCrimmon, 99, of Vass, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at her residence.
Mother Maggie Ree (McLeod) McCrimmon, 99, of Vass, NC, entered eternal rest on Sunday, June 28, 2026, peacefully at her home, surrounded by the love of a life well lived.
Mother Maggie was born on October 26, 1926, in Hoke County, North Carolina to the late Annie Bell Baldwin. She was educated in the local school system and graduated from Pinckney High School in Carthage, NC, in 1946. Driven by a heart for service, she completed her Nursing Assistant certification at Sandhills Community College in Southern Pines, NC, launching a career devoted to caring for others.
As a nursing assistant and caregiver, Mother Maggie touched countless lives across the community, offering not only skilled care but comfort, patience, and compassion to every patient and family she served. Her calling was more than a profession—it was a ministry in its own right, and she carried it out faithfully for decades, working well into her later years before finally retiring at 85.
Beyond her career, Mother Maggie lived a rich and adventurous life. She was a seasoned traveler who journeyed both abroad and locally, visiting Africa, South America, and Europe. The most treasured of her travels took her to the Holy Land, where she was baptized in the River Jordan, an experience that deepened her lifelong faith. She was also a gifted and avid seamstress, sewing for people of all ages throughout her life.
Remarkably, at the age of 60, she taught herself to play the piano entirely by ear, going on to serve as Fryes Chapel church musician and for numerous churches throughout Moore, Cumberland, and Harnett counties—a testament to her determination and the depth of her musical gift.
Mother Maggie’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of Fryes Chapel FWB Church for 80 years, where her presence and service left a lasting mark on the congregation. Over the decades, she served faithfully in many capacities, including on the usher board, the missionary department, and the choir, ultimately rising to chair the Mother’s Board. She served under the leadership of several pastors, from Reverend Gillispie to the current pastor, Reverend Frank Bryant, remaining committed to her church family until her health no longer allowed her to continue.
Mother Maggie was a member of the United Order of Tents for over 50 years, working in various capacities within the organization and ultimately receiving the highest honor, the Lorriane C. McLeod President’s Award.
Mother Maggie was united in marriage to the late Alexander McCrimmon, and to this union one daughter was born.
Mother Maggie was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Bell Baldwin, and two sisters, Alice Mae McCrimmon and Francis Jamison.
Mother Maggie leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love that will continue to live on in the family and community she so dearly cherished.
Those left to cherish fond memories of Mother Maggie are, her daughter, Katie Chisolm, and son-in-law, Anderson Chisolm, of Carthage, NC; one granddaughter, Kimina Chisolm of Bowie, MD; one great-granddaughter, KaMya Gary of Bowie, MD; one special son, Willie McLeod of Vass, NC; an adopted son, Donald Anderson McCrimmon of Sanford, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, whose lives she touched in countless ways.
