Lottie Pearl Smith Obituary

Mrs. Lottie Pearl Smith, 87, of Southern Pines, North Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at The Green's At Pinehurst in Pinehurst, North Carolina.


Lottie Pearl Smith, daughter of the late Mr. Jessie and Hattie McNeil was born December 30, 1935 in Montgomery County, North Carolina.


Lottie was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Hattie McNeil, husband, Douglas Smith, two daughters, Priscilla Hannans and baby girl, Paula Faye Smith, two Sisters, Hattie Robinson, and Thelma Johnson, four brothers, Jesse Lee McNeil, Alexander McNeil, Carlvester McNeil, and Willie McNeil.


Lottie attended public school in West End, NC and Pinckney High School in Carthage, NC. Growing up in a religious home, she began a lifelong relationship with Christ.


She worked as a caregiver for many families in Moore County. She was a loving, caring, very dedicated mother and wife. She loved her clothes, dressing up, being very dainty and feisty. She loved listening to some Marvin Gaye, dancing and singing around in the house. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 23.


Lottie was a pillar in the community. She loved cooking, feeding, and nurturing the neighborhood.


Pearl will be dearly missed and leaves behind two daughters, Tina Gillis (Steven) of Southern Pines, NC, and Pamela Smith of Southern Pines; four sons, Douglas Smith Jr. (Shirley) of Laurinburg, NC, Howard Smith (Libby) of Southern Pines, Terry Smith of Aberdeen, NC, and Darrell Smith (Felicia) of Raleigh, NC, one brother, James “Bo” McNeil, of Cleveland, OH; seventeen grandchildren, fifty-nine great grandchildren; Six great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and other friends.


Lottie Pearl will be missed dearly but, never forgotten.
