Lorine (Berry) McCants

Mrs. Lorine Berry McCants, 97, of Pinebluff, North Carolina (Addor Community) entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care in West End, North Carolina. 

Lorine B. McCants was born on August 17, 1928, in Addor, North Carolina to Mary Helen Arnold Berry and Thomas Hayes. In 1955, she married the love of her life. James McCants. Their bond remained strong even after his passing as she faithfully visited his grave for daily.

Lorine lived life with joy and purpose. She loved traveling, particularly to the Rocky and Blue Ridge Mountains. As a devoted Christian, she served faithfully as a Deaconess and was deeply committed to her community. Her contributions in that time included the "Sandhill Citizen" and later the "Pilot Newspaper". She also delivered Meals on Wheels in Moore County and supported her alma mater, Berkeley High School, Class of 1948.

A longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lorine remained active until her health declined. She was known for her joyful spirit, love of dancing, and fondness for hoop cheese. She worked faithfully for 30 years with the State of North Carolina at McCain Hospital.

She leaves to cherish he memories: her devoted son James McCants of the home; five beloved grandchildren, Tareva Liles, Christopher Holland, Sierra Hancock, Arie McCants, Za'Mire McCants; two great-grandchildren, Ace and Ava McCants; as well as an adopted grandson Ryan Howell and goddaughter Pam Cobb.  Her Loving and devoted nephews and nieces are Edith McCants, Celestine Miller, Helen Covington, Rachel McKeithen, Phyllis Berry, Fortner Berry Jr., and Craig Berry.
