Mrs. Linda Upchurch (Campbell) English, 72, of Southern Pines, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 13, 2025, at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care in West End, North Carolina. 

Linda Diane Campbell English, a woman of grace, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025.

In a touching turn of events, Linda transitioned on the 17th anniversary of her son William’s passing—joining him on the same day he departed in 2008.

Her Early Life and Education

Born on June 20, 1953, Linda was the daughter of the late David and Alberta Campbell. A lifelong resident of the Sandhills, she began her education at West Southern Pines High School and was a proud graduate of Pinecrest High School.

Linda joined First Missionary Baptist Church at a young age. Upon marriage, she attended Macedonia Missionary Baptist. Linda loved to sing and was especially fond of Mahalia Jackson.

Linda was a lifelong learner who believed in the power of education and hard work. She attended Sandhills Community College, where she earned both an Associate’s Degree in Business and a  Certificate in Cosmetology, blending her sharp professional mind with her creative talents.

Her Legacy

Linda was a pillar of strength for her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James English; her cherished son, William “Worm” Upchurch; her brother, Elijah “Buddy”  Campbell; and her favorite nephew, Willie “Doc” Campbell. 

She leaves behind a rich legacy of love and beautiful memories to be cherished by:

Children: Daughter Victoria Campbell and son James Upchurch. Siblings: Sisters Wanda Cameron (Ron) and Birtha Shaw. Family by Marriage: Brother-in-law Damon Clark (Belinda).  Grandchildren: Tory Upchurch, Jamylah Upchurch, James Upchurch, William Upchurch, and Manijah Upchurch. Six precious great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy.

Linda also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her guidance, her spirit, and her presence in their lives.
