Mrs. Lillian McGregor Barner, 87, of Pinehurst entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care in West End, North Carolina.
Mrs. Lillian McGregor Barner was the first daughter of thirteen children, born on August 26, 1936, to the late Curtis McGregor and Rushie Brower McGregor in Pinehurst, NC. On May 9, 2024, while at FirstHealth Hospice House, God called her home to be with Him.
Lillian was raised in a Christian home where her faith and love for God and family were nurtured.
Her formative educational years were spent at the Chelsea School in the Jackson-Hamlet Community and Our Lady of Victory Catholic School in West Southern Pines, NC. She always expressed her love for the nuns, the priest, her classmates, and the values poured into the students. She graduated in 1955 from Berkley High School in Aberdeen, NC, and enjoyed the bi-annual class reunions held to celebrate the school and the alumni.
Lillian joined Love Grove Freewill Baptist Church at an early age and enjoyed her work there. As a young teen, she was secretary of Sunday School, teacher of the Tiny Tots class, singer on the Senior Choir, elected and served as president of the Mother’s Board for many years, member of the Home Mission, attended and fellowshipped in prayer and Bible study regularly, and participated in and guided other activities and events in the church.
After high school, Lillian met the love of her life, Andrew Russell Barner, Sr., who had just moved to Jackson Hamlet. Together, they began to build their life and family.
Lillian worked in various manufacturing enterprises in Moore County but found her calling in nursing. She worked for 23 years as a certified nursing assistant at Penick Village in Southern Pines, NC, and her profession extended into private duty cases.
From her loving family she was preceded in death by her husband Andrew R. Barner, Sr.; her daughter Rebecca Ann Barner; her mother and father Curtis and Rushie; her sisters Evelyn and Isabel; and her brothers William, Robert, John, James, Wesley, and Irvin.
She is lovingly survived by her children Audrey Jarrett (Alfonso) of Durham, NC, Andrew R. Barner, Jr. (Beth) of Dacula, GA, Arlean Graham of Aberdeen, NC, Darlean McLaughlin (Willie) of Southern Pines, NC, Glen Barner of Carthage, NC, and Kenneth Barner (Scott Chappell) of Aberdeen, NC; four granddaughters Nedra Massenburg, Whitney Swann, Joi McLaughlin, Glynniece Laferriere, and one grandson, Will McLaughlin and a special granddaughter Aryjana Askew; three great granddaughters Mariah, Brielle, and Lola; two great grandsons Dennis and David; her sister Ernestine Tyson (Thomas) of Aberdeen, NC; three sisters-in-law Connie McGregor, Ellen McGregor, and Lillian (Lil) McGregor; and three brothers Philip McGregor (Agnes) of McDonough, GA, George McGregor (Barbara) and Michael McGregor of Aberdeen, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and life-long friends.
