Mr. Lewis Edward Alston, 60, of 349 Alfred Alston Road, Sanford, North Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Jim and Betsy Bryan Hospice Home of Pittsboro, North Carolina.

Funeral Will Be Broadcasted Via Facebook Live On The McLeod Funeral Home Facebook Page At 1:00 PM On Sunday, May 30th.

Lewis Edward Alston was born on April 28, 1961 in Richmond, Virginia and eagerly received by Earlene J. Alston (deceased) of Sanford, North Carolina.

Lewis attended and graduated from Deep River Elementary School in Moncure, North Carolina. He graduated from Lee Senior High in Jonesboro, North Carolina. His secondary education included the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science on August 13, 1990.

While at the University, he joined the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and remained active throughout his lifetime. He played basketball under Coach Roy Williams and was fondly called "Shaft" at the university and "Pete" in the Osgood Community. He will truly be missed!

Lewis continued further studies at Keller Graduate School of Management, earning a Master of Human Resource Management in November of 2003 in Orlando, Florida, and a Master of Business Management in June of 2011 in Tampa, Florida.

In 1990 Lewis moved to Sanford, Florida after declaring to his friends that he was "tired of Sanford". His friends laughingly teased him about moving over 583 miles to another "Sanford". He later moved to St. Petersburg, Florida for a short time, but later moved back to, you guessed it, Sanford, North Carolina.

Lewis was always active in the church, both in Florida and North Carolina. He could always be found teaching Sunday School, singing in the choirs, cooking and working in the fellowship hall, and helping out wherever he was needed. He loved sports and children, and took on the job of teaching/coaching soccer while in Florida. He also never met a stranger because he could easily engage you in conversation since he was never at a loss for words. He seemed to have other people at heart always. It was not unusual to see him high-speed backing down the road in his car with his little cousins on board and laughing all the way.

Upon moving back to Sanford, North Carolina, he resumed his involvement in the church and teaching in the public schools. His life achievements, too numerous to mention here, can be found on Google.

On Tuesday, May 25, 2021, Lewis departed this life after a very untimely accident at home, with further complications ending his life. He was gone too soon!

He leaves to cherish his memories, his cousins, Constance McRae, and Bertha Mccants, both of North Carolina, Jerry Mccants and Roselle, both of New York, and their children, Erica Mccants, Allison Mccants, Rachel (Cody) Matherne,  Jeremy Mccants, Tiffany and sons Jaxon Gray and Carter Rey of New York, Damon Brown of New Jersey, Angela Brown and Karen Watson, both of Sanford, North Carolina; and a sea of other relatives and friends.

Masks are still required while inside!

Arrangements are entrusted to McLeod Funeral Home of Sanford, North Carolina.
