Mr. Johnnie Smith, 71, of Cameron, North Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 21, 2022 at Central Carolina Hospital.
Mr. Johnnie Smith was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. On March 21, 2022, he departed this life at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, North Carolina.
Mr. Johnnie Smith was born on March 15, 1951, in Harnett County to Roland Smith and Bettie Mae Gilchrist Smith. Johnnie was educated and graduated from Johnsonville School.
Johnnie met and married the love of his life, Veta Snipes Smith, on June 20, 1971; to this union were two children.
Johnnie furthered his education and received multiple certifications from Central Carolina Community College. He worked various jobs, including GKN, Parker, and Dennis Wicker Civic Center. He expressed sincere love and devotion to God, his family, and his church with a special warm heart for many children.
Johnnie maintained a balanced lifestyle, always caring and sharing his time, home, and family needs, especially his devotion to the church and church work. Johnnie served in many capacities in the church, including the first president of the Male Chorus for many years, Preacher’s Stewart, Trustee, Usher, and a passion for singing to the Glory of God. Johnnie was a member of the Elliott Lodge #38, Scottish Rite of Fayetteville, NC Ancient and Accepted. Johnnie had many hobbies; basketball, playing sports, bowling, fishing, and cruising. It was nothing for him to cruise several times a year.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents Roland and Bettie Smith, siblings, Annette Smith Norwood, and Frederick J. Smith, maternal grandparents, George and Alice Gilchrist, paternal grandparents, Shellie Smith and Beulah Gilchrist Smith, several uncles, and aunts, in-laws, father and mother-in-law; Glenn and Doris Snipes.
Johnnie leaves to cherish his beautiful memories, his loving and caring wife, Veta; his children, Kim Smith of Fayetteville, NC and Pam Smith Johnson (Kevin) of Lillington, NC; grandchildren, Taniya Smith, Michael Starks, Jr; great-grandchildren, Alex Smith-McLain, Luna Starks, and Xy’Aire Starks; siblings, Bobbie J. Jordan, Leon Smith (Rev. Linda
Smith), Willie Smith (Rev. Vera Smith), George Smith (Cynthia); Helen Tomlinson (James), Andrew Smith and Patricia Smith; god-daughter, Sherica Smtih; four sisters-in-law; three
brothers-in-law; four aunts, Ellen Brewington (Henry), Shirley Gilchrist, Luvenia Jones, and Lourine Gilchrist; a special son, Kelvin Smith; a special friend of the family, Jackie Nolen, and a
host of, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
*The family will receive visitors at 70 Calvin Road from the hours of 1pm - 7pm daily beginning Thursday, March 24, 2022. At the family's request everyone that enters the home must be masked.*
