Mr. John Henry Raphael Brown, 79, of Jackson Hamlet Community of Aberdeen, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 17, 2025.  

Mr. John Brown was born on April 5, 1946, to the late James Edward and Dorothy Dowd Brown of the Eastwood Community in West End, North Carolina. He departed this life on July 17, 2025.

John “Duck,” as he was affectionately known, graduated from Academy Heights High School and joined the United States Army shortly afterwards, serving a two-year military term and being honorably discharged in 1968.

John met and married Brenda Kelly Brown. To this union, three children were born: John A., Jarvis A., and Shalethia A. Brown.

His employment history included Pine Needles Golf Resort, Carolina Telephone Company, and Moore County Schools. He retired from Moore County Schools, having received many certificates  of achievement. Duck had many skills which he used on the job, at home, and throughout the community, to accomplish many endeavors.

He was a member of St. Matthews Chapel FWB Church in the Eastwood Community, where he served as head of the Trustee Board, a choir member, choir president, and was ordained as a  Deacon in the early 90s. He answered the call in 2008, along with his wife, to pastor at New Hope Christian Ministries, serving as a Deacon and First Man. He was currently under the care of  Pastor Jeremy Hollingsworth at Love Grove FWB Church in the Jackson-Hamlet Community in Aberdeen.

Duck was preceded in death by his parents, two children, John A. Brown and Shalethia A. Brown, and a grandson, Tyrek Chavez Brown.

Those left to cherish many wonderful memories are his devoted wife, Brenda Brown, a son, Jarvis A. Brown (Cordelia) of Wilmington, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Dynell Jones (special  goddaughter, Ashley), Eric Brown, Destiny Alyriah (Donovan), Jania Dasha Brown (special godson, Semaj), William Robert Upchurch (Gabby), Jasmine Dowd, and Novare Tyrese Brown; ten  great grandchildren; one brother-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends.
