John Collins Obituary

Mr. John Michael Collins, 78, of Sanford, North Carolina (Baltimore, Maryland) entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 8, 2026, at his residence.

John Michael Collins, affectionately known by family and the Perkins community as “Mike,” departed this life on May 8, 2026. Born on December 22, 1947, to the late Laura Rosetta Pulliam and John Will Collins Jr., Mike was a man of character, humor, and deep loyalty.

A proud veteran, Mike graduated from Dunbar High School in 1966 before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1969. He served with honor as an E4 Corporal in Fire Crash and Rescue and later continued his commitment to service in the Army National Guard.

Following his military service, Mike began a career at City Hospital, where he met the love of his life, Betty Ann. He also spent many years as a dedicated courier for Maryland Messenger and Don’s Messenger, and worked for several years as a security officer and mover.

Beyond his work, Mike was the life of the party. He was legendary for his smooth dance moves, his sharp, sarcastic humor, and his unwavering love for Motown and the Funkadelics. He was a passionate supporter of the Baltimore Ravens and deeply respected Barack Obama, whom he proudly called “his president.”

Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Ann; his parents; and his brothers, Clinton, Robert, William, Ralph, and Richard.

Those left to cherish fond memories of “Pop” are his son, John Michael Collins Jr.; his daughter, Kimia Collins; and his son-in-law, Derrick Washington. He also leaves behind his siblings, Laurie Tuck and Wendell Collins; five grandchildren, Anthony, Kaeron, Shayne, Simone, and Lexus; four great-grandchildren, Kamora, Brennan, Leilani, and Kanan; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
