Jessie Mae Brower Capel was born to the late George and Claudie Brower on February 7, 1929, in Jackson Springs, NC. She graduated from Pinckney High School in Carthage, NC. In accordance with God’s Holy plan, Jessie Mae departed her earthly life quietly at home on June 4, 2024.
Jessie Mae was the second oldest of seven children and loved spending time at home in her later years. She retired from Quality Mills in Carthage, NC.
Growing up in a hardworking and God-fearing family, Jessie Mae learned to love and reverence God at an early age. Her young life was spent farming and raising livestock. She spent most of her life on Provost Road in Jackson Springs, NC and attended Bear Creek Congregationalist Church in Robbins, NC. She remained faithful to her church until she became unable to drive.
Jessie Mae was joined in marriage to David J. Capel, Jr. and to this union one child, Eric “Ricky” was born. Jessie Mae was a devoted wife and mother.
Later in life, Jessie Mae was a woman of very few words but expressed her love for family and her longevity of life. Even at ninety-five years old, Jessie Mae was still able to care for herself, cook for herself, take her daily walks down to her childhood home, and able to live alone until the time of her death. Jessie Mae loved receiving visits from her sisters and other “out of town” family members. She was known to say, “I am doing fine, I get my walk in every day. I have no pain or anything” and “I have the best family in the world!”
Jessie Mae was preceded in death by her husband David Capel, three brothers, Edward, Cranford and Jimmie Brower and one sister, Pauline Johnson.
Those left to enjoy fond memories of Jessie Mae are her son Eric Capel and daughter-in-law Kathy Capel of Pinebluff, NC; two granddaughters, Tasheana Hodges (Stanley), of Fayetteville, NC, and Erica Stevenson, of Charlotte, NC; one grandson, Ronald Green, of Pinebluff, NC; two sisters, Sadie Walters of Baldwin, NY, and Fleta Mason of Atlanta, GA; three sisters-in-law, Costella Brower of Eagle Springs, NC, Bessie Brower of High Point, NC, and Barbara Brower of Hoffman, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Also left to cherish special memories of Jessie Mae is her nephew, Roderick Brower. His devotion to his “auntie” does not go unnoticed.
Please keep the family and friends of Mrs. Jessie Mae (Brower) Capel in your thoughts and prayers.
