Mr. James Edgar McMillan Jr., 70, of Fayetteville, North Carolina (formerly of Sanford, North Carolina) entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Autumn Care of Raeford, Raeford, North Carolina.
James Edgar McMillan Jr., was called to be with the Lord on December 7, 2024. He was born on February 21, 1954, to the loving parents of James Edgar McMillan Sr. and Alma Horton McMillan in Sanford, NC.
James, affectionately known as “Jimmy” to his family and friends, was raised in Fayetteville, NC, by his parents. He developed his love for fishing there, which he did as often as he could. He would later share this love with his children, teaching them- every aspect of fishing he knew. He attended E.E. Smith High School and graduated in 1971. After graduation, Jimmy enrolled at Johnson C. Smith University to major in chemistry. While pursuing his education, he was drawn to the brothers in the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. (ΚΑΨ), a historically African American fraternity founded in 1911, in which he took great pride when he crossed over in 1973, which he took pride in a brotherhood being the only child. It meant a lot to him to follow after his own father. Jimmy was a truck driver for seventeen years and he loved it. He loved it so that he started his own business, “McMillan Trucking Company”.
On May 25, 1974, James married Deborah Murchison, and this union produced two wonderful children whom they raised together. Jimmy was significantly involved with his children’s educational and moral values and encouraged them to “Always respect yourself” and “Always Finish What You Start!” Which both of his children passed on to their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edgar McMillan Sr. and Alma Horton McMillan.
James is survived by his two children, Tawian McMillan (Katresa) and Lynette McMillan; five granddaughters, Ayanna Staten, Keshanna Williams, Bianca Logan, Jaukayla Ridges, and Kimaya Marshall; one great-grandson, Braylen Burnette; his former spouse, Barbara McMillan; and a host of cousins, other loving family members, and friends.
Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls – Matthew 11:28-30.
Please keep the family and friends of Mr. James Edgar McMillan Jr in your thoughts and prayers.
