Mr. James Womble, 77, of Sanford, North Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh, North Carolina.
James (Jimmy) Womble, affectionately known by so many as "Dog" or "Dog Womble," was born on March 8, 1945, to the late James and Margaret Jackson Womble in Philadelphia, PA, and departed this life following an extended illness on March 22, 2022, at Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh, NC.
Jimmy graduated from W.B. Wicker High School in 1965, where he was a football standout on the team. After graduation, he attended North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, NC, to play football, but later decided to return to Sanford to begin his working career and start a family. Until his retirement, he worked at the Sanford Brickyard in Colon, NC, and then worked at Allied Chemical Corporation in Moncure, NC, until his retirement. Jimmy had four children (two boys and three girls), with one son, Jerod Wimbley, preceding him in death.
Jimmy married Josie Williams on May 30, 1992, and inherited two more daughters, Brenda and Kim. He and Josie took delight in raising their grandson, William (Buddy) Stanley, from the age of two. His now blended family was complete and brought him great joy!
Jimmy was a hardworking man and loved working on cars. He found happiness in building cars and racing them on Thursday and Friday nights at the drag strip. He loved his wife and family more than anything and was always there to give advice and money (in that order). He was always willing to help anyone he could, and he loved to make people laugh with his sharp wit by telling a joke or giving a good clap back when he was the punch line of someone else's joke.
Jimmy was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and served on the usher board until his health declined.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories: his loving wife of 29 years, Josie Womble; five daughters, Monique Adams of Cleveland, OH, Brenda Gooch (Joie) of Sanford, NC, Kim Richmond of Sanford, NC, Nekia Creacy (Renauld) of Cameron, NC and Malilya Womble of Cleveland, OH; one son, Tracey Murchison (Monica) of Sanford, NC; two sisters, Earlene Mitchell (Alvin) of Philadelphia, PA, and Stephanie Jones (Ted) of Spartanburg, SC; one remaining aunt, Alberta Williams of Sanford, NC; One nephew, Kelvin Hammet (Lisa) of Virginia Beach, VA; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of brothers and sisters-in-law and nephews and nieces, cousins, and friends.
Jimmy shared a special bond with two cousins, David Jackson and John (Dick) Jackson, and a good friend, Ed Gunter. He also had a special father/son relationship with Shaun Seymore, Ricky Tyson, and his beloved goddaughter, Nikki Scurlock.
