Illie Baker, Sr. Obituary

Mr. Illie Baker, Sr., 67, of Aberdeen, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 14, 2025 at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care in West End, North Carolina.

Illie Baker Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him. He was born in Fayetteville, N.C., on October 24,  1957, and lived a life marked by kindness, service, humor, and quiet wisdom.

Illie retired from Golf Access Printing, where he worked faithfully as a supervisor. Beyond his career, he took great pride in the work of his hands — maintaining properties, renovating homes and  helping neighbors with everything from leaky faucets to car repairs. His love for fixing things extended well past duty; it was his way of caring for others.

When he wasn’t working, Illie enjoyed the simpler pleasures of life. He loved fishing, cooking hearty meals, keeping up with current events, watching old westerns, and spending time with his   dogs. He also had a passion for working on cars, a skill he happily shared with friends and neighbors.

Known for his easygoing nature, Illie was generous with his time, his laughter, and his wisdom. He was a thoughtful conversationalist — the kind of person who could make you laugh and make  you think, all in the same breath. His gentle presence and light-hearted humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack James Baker, Nealie Jane Williams Baker and his biological mother, Hannah Graham Baker; and his older brother, Larry Bernard Baker Sr.

Illie leaves behind a loving family, including his children: Yolonda Baker (partner, Quentin), Tairica Addison (James), Illie Baker Jr., Lydia Newman (Tyrone), Lillie Baker; and his former son-in-law,  Maurice Moore. He was a proud grandfather to Clarice (Andrew), Cortez (Melissa), Monique, Anjewel, Miyah, Malachi, Mauriyah, Maurice Jr., Jadin, Micah, Jaylah, Arielle, and Jiselle; and a joyful  great-grandfather to Julius, Sebastian, Milani, Salem, and Yanis.

He is also survived by his siblings: Maxine Baker, Dianna Baker Monroe (Joey), Julie Baker, and Brent Baker; his aunts: Martha Moses (Charles) and Dorthy Hair; and a host of nieces, nephews,  cousins, and friends who will continue to cherish his memory.

Illie Baker Sr. lived a life rooted in love, grounded in humility, and full of quiet strength. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the gift of knowing him.

Please keep the family and friends of Mr. Illie Baker, Sr. in your thoughts and prayers.

Arrangements are entrusted to McLeod Funeral Home of Southern Pines, North Carolina.
