Mr. Howard Dobbins Gillespie, 99, of West End, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Peak Resources Pinelake in Carthage, North Carolina.
Howard Dobbins Gillespie was born on March 25, 1925, to the late Clarence and Bertha Dobbins Gillespie in Hoke County, North Carolina. He departed this life on November 2, 2024, at Peak
Resources Pinelake in Carthage, North Carolina.
Howard was a longtime member of Love Grove AME Zion Church, where he served as a class leader, treasurer and sang with the choir.
Howard enjoyed fishing, having a garden, and taking care of plants and flowers. He also loved hats and smoking cigars.
During his years of employment, he held multiple positions in the workforce. He retired from the Foundry in Biscoe, North Carolina and the Moore County Recycling in West End.
Howard will be dearly missed by his six children, Howard Gillespie, Jr. (Anita) of Atlanta, GA, Katrina Morrison (Jack) of Taylortown, NC, Vida Cooper of Cincinnati, OH, William Gillespie (Kim) of
Raleigh, NC, Leon Gillespie (Venetia) of Winterville, NC and Arnold Gillespie of West End; four brothers, Rowland (Onnie) of West End, David of the Eastwood Community of West End, and James (Jean) and Johnny both of West End; one sister, Mary Gillespie of West End; two sisters-in-law Inez Cole of Durham, NC and Ernestine Lucas of Sacramento, CA; nineteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his late parents, Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mable Gillespie, his son, James Roger Gillespie, one brother, Clarence Gillespie, and two sisters, Rosa Lee Malloy and Annie Mae Goins.
