Harry Lee Chambers Obituary

Mr. Harry Lee Chambers, 76, of Aberdeen, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at his residence.

Harry Lee Chambers (76) died at his home on Saturday, December 9, 2023. Harry was born in Hoke County on March 7, 1947, to Henry and Cora Chambers.

He graduated with the class of 1964 from Berkeley High School in Aberdeen, NC. After his graduation, he attended North Carolina A&T State University and Sandhills Community College.

On March 18, 1967, Harry married his high school sweetheart, Treater Chavis. They shared common interests and were inseparable. Where you would find one, you would also see the other. This perfect match was built on a foundation of deep love and respect for one another. It was a partnership in marriage and business.

Harry had several jobs before making a career at the NC Department of Corrections, where he worked for over 30 years. While with the Department of Corrections, he moved through the ranks, starting as an officer at McCain and retiring as superintendent at Sanford Corrections. Post-retirement, he worked part-time at Simon Funeral Home (now Mcleod’s Funeral Home) until his death.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Henry Chambers, Jr. (Mary), and his youngest son, Chad Demetrius Chambers (Rita).

He leaves to mourn his wife of 56 years, Treater Chambers; his three children, Bernard McNair, (Lisa) and daughters, Dina Phillips and Dena Johnson (Antonio).

His legacy will live in the hearts of his two grandsons, Jaaren Phillips and Tavius McNair, and his granddaughters, Meghan Jones (Demetrius), Olivia Gillis (Darius), Alexus McDougald (Jamone), and Jori Phillips.

He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Braylon Jones, Cameron Jones, Auden McDougald, Demi Jones, Lewis Gillis and Anari McDougald.

Harry loved many things...his Treater Mae, his family, his collection of antique cars, his sports, and his Carolina Tarheels. Oh, did I say his Carolina Tarheels!  He loved to travel in his RV. He also loved good music, which he passed on to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. You would sometimes see him cutting the rug. He could also be found working on a project and always playing with a new toy.

Harry was a role model and a father to many throughout his life. His gregarious personality made him approachable and easy to be around. He was a great host, loved to extend hospitality, and offered good spirits to everyone. He was mild-tempered and very patient. You could feed him chicken seven days a week, and he would never complain. Today, we lay to rest a best friend, a father to his immediate and extended family, and a loyal companion to the love of his life, Treater. His departure brings us great sadness now and in the days and months ahead, although he is gone, he will never be forgotten.

Please keep the family and friends of Mr. Harry Lee Chambers in your thoughts and prayers.

Arrangements are entrusted to McLeod Funeral Home of Southern Pines, North Carolina.
