Mrs. Georgia E. Hinton, 105, of Aberdeen, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care in West End, North Carolina.
Georgia Ellen Pegram Hinton (affectionally known as “Ms. Georgia”)
Ms. Georgia, daughter of the late Emmitt and Lula Pegram was born on September 16, 1918, in Scotland County, NC. She fell asleep in death on May 28, 2024, at 11:00 am.
Ms. Georgia grew up in Scotland County, where she attended school before moving to Hoffman, NC. She moved to Charlotte, NC, for a few years before returning to Hoffman, where she met and married Andrew Louis Hinton. Both were mild-tempered individuals and had a loving marriage. Eight children were born to this union.
For those of you who knew Ms. Georgia, well, know that she put her faith above all things, sharing bible scriptures with you during regular conversations in an attempt to guide you in the right direction. Ms. Georgia was a Jehovah Witness for over fifty years. She was witty and fashionable (a fashionista). She was always modeling the latest sophisticated fashions, whether casual or dressy.
Ms. Georgia was a number one gardener who loved flowers and grew all types. When her children were growing up, she had a vegetable garden every year. As years passed and her children left the nest, she started traveling, and did she travel! She was always ready to go when any of her children started their cars. She rode, flew, and sailed but never drove. Ms. Georgia traveled from the coast to the mountains. She looked forward to the annual beach trips with her daughters.
Ms. Georgia’s work career was in domestic engineering. She was always willing and ready to care for her grandchildren when she retired. She was an amazing, loving, nurturing, and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great, great grandmother.
Ms. Georgia’s impact on her community was recognized and celebrated. On her 100th Birthday, the town of Aberdeen, NC, officially Named December 4th as GEORGIA HINTON DAY, a testament to her enduring influence and the love and respect she garnered from her community.
Preceding Ms. Georgia in death were her parents, Lula and Emmitt Pegram; her husband, Andrew Louis Hinton; her brother Howard Pegram; her sisters, Gertrude Gibson, Luzine Calloway, Carrie Pegram, Mary Hampton, and Maggie McKenzie; her children, Linda Gillis, Andrew Louis Hinton Jr. and Louise Hinton McLaurin.
Left to cherish her sweet, loving memories are her children, Carolyn Pegram Latchman, of Southern Pines, NC, Larry Jerome Hinton (Cathy) of Aberdeen, NC, Kary Hinton Hailey (David) of Southern Pines, Ronald Nelson Drake Hinton and Cedric Andre’ Hinton of the home; twenty grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren, eleven great, great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, spiritual sisters and brothers and friends who loved her dearly.
