Mrs. Gale E. Washington-Payne,66, of 3670 Pioneer Drive, Hope Mills, NC, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. Arrangements are entrusted to McLeod Funeral Home of Sanford, NC.
Mrs. Gale E. Washington-Payne was born on April 27, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Johnny William Washington and Doris B. Washington. She transitioned peacefully on January 30, 2020, at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC.
She received her primary education at Canarsie High School in Brooklyn, New York, and she later attended technical college, where she received her certification as a Nursing Assistant. Upon receiving her certification, she worked at Brookdale Park City Retirement Community in New York City, New York. In 1983 she relocated to Cameron, NC, and continued working as a Certified Nursing Assistant with her sister, Julia Ann Ellis-Darwin, in numerous nursing facilities throughout the Cumberland County area.
Gale was a devoted Christian who attended numerous churches and dedicated her life to Christ in 1991. She attended Ebenezer Gospel Assembly Training Center, Inc. in Sanford, NC, under the leadership of Pastor Deloris Williams-Washington, who was also her step-mother. In 2005 Gale became an ordained Minister under the Founder and Pastor James Clark of Kingdom Builders of Christ Ministry in Sanford, NC. She later changed her membership to Faith Covenant Fellowship Worship Center in Fayetteville, NC, under the leadership of Overseer Stanford Aekins and Bishop Morris Aekins where she attended faithfully until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by Mr. Johnny William Washington (Father), Mrs. Doris B, Washington (Mother), Julia Ann Ellis-Darwin (Sister), Reushawn Washington (Son), and Jovelle Washington (Son).
Gale leaves to cherish her memories, husband, Mr. Donald E. Payne, Sr.; four sons, Antonio John Washington (Hannah) of Hope Mills, NC, Ron Lamont Washington of Menifee, CA, Donald Edward Payne, Jr., of Spring Lake, NC, and Keith Tyrone Payne of Spring Lake, NC; six grandsons, Anthony, Ron, William, Tavon, Shawn, and Keith Jr.; eight granddaughters, Kiara, Iesha, Shanale, Cynthia, Angel, Kyra, Arianna, and Jeka; one brother, James Wilder of Washington, DC; special nieces and nephews, Simone Ellis, Calvin Ellis, Tywanna Ellis, and Shavon Ellis; and other relatives and friends.
