Mr. Frank James Cameron, 79, of Sanford entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Westfield Rehabilitation and Health Center in Sanford, North Carolina.
On Saturday, February 8, 2025, God called our beloved Frank James to his heavenly home from the Westfield Rehabilitation Center. Frank was a cherished father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Frank was born on July 14, 1945, the fifth child of the late William Marvin and Eura Odell Rollins Cameron. Frank was nurtured in the Chestnut AME Zion Church from an early age, where he continued to be an active member well into his adult years.
He received his education at Lee Elementary School and WB Wicker High School, where he was a drummer in the Marching Band and graduated with the Class of 1965. Following his education, and as the only son at home due to his younger brother joining the United States Air Force, Frank chose to also serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army in August of 1965. As a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Division, he completed two tours in the Vietnam War.
Upon returning home and transitioning from military service, Frank embarked on a career as a Telephone and Business Installer for Heins Telephone Company, which later became Alltel, until his retirement. Before his declining health, Frank enjoyed fishing with his brother, John, on the coast during the fall of the year. His other hobbies included hunting, watching football, enjoying country music, and watching westerns on TV.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, William and Ira Cameron.
He leaves behind cherished memories with his son, Brian DeShannon Smith (Candace) of Sanford, NC; three grandchildren, also of Sanford; his sister, Sarah Jefferson; his brothers, John Cameron (Joanne) and Robert E. Cameron, all of Sanford; his aunt, Bernice Rollins of St. George, SC; six nieces; two nephews; great nieces, great nephews; and a host of cousins and friends.
Please keep the family and friends of Mr. Frank James Cameron in your thoughts and prayers.
