Mrs. Esther Gwendolyn Chalmers Lucas, 78, of Sanford, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn, North Carolina.

Esther Gwendolyn Chalmers Lucas, 78, of Sanford, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn, North Carolina.

On Tuesday morning, November 22, 2022, at 10:16 am, God called his daughter, Esther Gwendolyn Chalmers Lucas to rest from her labors and escorted her home.

Esther was born on February 18,1944, to the late Doctor Chalmers and Pauline Pearson Chalmers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Lawrence Lucas; six brothers, Edwin, Doctor Jr., Grant, Leonard, Lermond "Pete", and Thurman Chalmers; one sister, Mrs. Mary Eunice Chalmers Cameron; one bonus daughter, Jonnette Stewart. 

At an early age, she joined Williams Chapel Presbyterian Church, Broadway, NC.

Esther graduated from Johnsonville High School, Cameron, NC. After graduating high school, she moved to New York where she was a fashion merchandiser of clothes, jewelry, shoes, and purses. After living in New York for many years, she returned to North Carolina.  She reaffirmed her faith and joined Johnsonville AME Zion Church. Esther attended training and became a CNA for Daily Dialysis until her retirement. She then became an entrepreneur of vending machines. She married her late husband, Lawrence Lucas on July 17, 1975 and to this union, she gained a bonus son, Lawrence Williams.

Esther leaves to mourn her beloved memory: sisters, Luvenia Jones and Mable Sanders of Cameron, NC, Irene Murchison (Dwight) of Lillington, NC; brother-in-law, Harold Morrell Cameron of
Lillington, NC; god-sons, Lamont Chalmers of Dallas, TX and Joseph Sanders of Durham, NC; care provider and loving niece, Dr. Shela M. Cameron, of Randallstown, MD; sisters-in-law,
Mammie Chalmers of Lillington, NC, Laura Chalmers Terry of Spring Lake, NC, Hattie Pulliam of Petersburg, VA and Cynthia Chalmers of Manhattan, New York; special friend, Barbara Gill of
Petersburg, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
