Ms. Elwood B. (Tysor) Davis, of Sanford, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, North Carolina. 

Billie Joyce Davis (better known as “Elwood”) of Sanford, NC was called home to the Lord on Friday, October 24, 2025 surrounded by family. She was the matriarch of her family and a cherished pillar of her church and community.

“Elwood” was born on August 9, 1940 in Goldston, NC. She was one of fifteen children born to Russell Lee and Mary Barnes Tysor. To know Elwood was to be seen, loved, and uplifted. She was a woman full of joy, wisdom, and humor: a storyteller with a laugh that could fill a room and a heart big enough to hold us all. Her legacy is one of compassion, connection, and community. In her own writings she once said that God had given her “a wonderful responsibility to raise my children and love them no matter what”. She called motherhood a sacred gift, and she lived it every single day. Through trials and triumphs, through laughter and loss, her love never wavered.

Elwood leaves to cherish her memory her children: Rodney Tysor, Kim Williams, Brian Davis, and Nekia Creacy (Renauld); her grandchildren: Alisha Tysor-Achonu (Davids), Dana (DJ) Williams, Tiana Davis, Zion, Zakir, and Marley Creacy and Chmira Gillam: great grandchildren: Zora and Maia Achonu and her devoted siblings: Ceola McIver, Virgilene McIver, and Winfred Tysor. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends to celebrate her love and legacy.
