Ms. Elva McDaniels, 70, of 1813 Farrell Road, Sanford, North Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Liberty Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Sanford, North Carolina.
Elva Jane Gillard McDaniels, known as “Tankie” and “Auntie”, was born April 26, 1951 to the late Fred Henry Gillard and Lelia Belle Gillard.
Elva attended W.B. Wicker and Central Carolina Technical College and became a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Elva left Sanford for a few years, moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and returned to Sanford. She was known for her fashion and nails. She moved in her passion as a caretaker in CNA. She worked for Convalescent Care for years, then ventured off to Magnolia House Retirement Center. She was known for her compassion for caring for the elderly and residents. Family members of the residents would hire her for additional hours because of her exceptional care-taking abilities for their loved ones.
Elva was committed to her service until she had a stroke, then another, and had to be admitted to Liberty Commons Rehabilitation. She adapted well. The labor she sowed in nursing and love was returned to her. Auntie was crowned Queen of Liberty Commons in July 2012. In attendance were former Mayor Olive, Cloggers and family. There was lots of food and fun! Auntie wore that crown every day! Elva was a member of Gospel Lighthouse.
Elva was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. George McDaniels. Elva Jane Gillard McDaniels departed this life on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation.
She was preceded in death by, her mother, Lelia Belle Gillard; her father, Fred Henry Gillard; and her sister, Martha G. Smith.
