Mrs. Dora Frances Minter McCutchen, 89, of Sanford, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 13 2023, at her residence in Sanford, North Carolina.
Dora Frances Minter McCutchen was born on May 12, 1933, to the late Joseph Minter and Lillie Moore Minter. She entered into eternal peace on April 13, 2023.
Dora grew up in Sanford, NC, where she attended Osgood School. In her early years, she did housekeeping, and soon after, she started working at W. Koury Company in Sanford. Shortly after leaving W. Koury Company, she started working as a cook at different restaurants.
Dora was a member at New Endland A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was a Deaconess and served on the Stewardess and Missionary Board. She was also an usher, a member of the Senior Choir, and worked in the kitchen. Dora found a love for sewing and cooking. When she started sewing, she made her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s clothing and also for other family and friends.
Dora was well known for her cooking. She fed family, friends, and many others. She enjoyed participating in senior games at the Enrichment Center, winning many Gold and Silver Ribbons. She also loved being a contestant at the Lee Regional Fair for her sewing, where she won many Blue Ribbons every year, and she also entered her homemade biscuits and won First Place! Before her health declined, she enjoyed traveling. She gave all her grandchildren their unique nicknames. Dora was full of laughter and smiles, she was very outgoing, and she loved giving a helping hand. She enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with her friends.
In 1952 Dora married Thomas McCutchen Jr., and five children were born into this union. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Joseph and Lillie Moore Minter; her husband, Thomas McCutchen Jr; her daughter, Janice McCutchen Clemons; her granddaughter, Kim McCutchen; three brothers, James Joseph Minter, Joe Minter Jr., and William Samuel Minter; and one sister, Ethel Mae Minter Hancock.
Dora leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Tommy McCutchen and Howard Lee McCutchen, both of Sanford, NC; two daughters, Ruth Ann McCutchen and Darlene Jackson (John), of Sanford; a son-in-law James Clemons of Sanford; two sisters-in-law, Annie Ruth McCutchen of Long Island, NY and Denise Minter of Philadelphia, PA; eighteen grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; a special friend who she considered her daughter, Shirley Ann Harrington; special friends Maggie Clemons, Brenda Bright, Alberta Williams, Joyce Smith, Sandra Steadman, Mary Baker Phillppe and Juanita Jackson; a special cousin Marie Byers; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
