Mr. David L. Gibson, 63, of Hoffman, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
David Lee Gibson was born on June 29, 1960, to Margaret Harrison and the late Mack Gibson, at Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham, North Carolina. David transformed into his more excellent life on December 28, 2023, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina, with his daughter, Cherry Gibson, by his side.
David received his early education in the Richmond County School system, graduating from Richmond Senior High School. David was a true “Richmond Raider” fan and a true “Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He was married to Barbara Horton Gibson for a precious thirty-eight years. Barbara often talked about how David never defaulted on his duty as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, all the way to the end. She said, “David always kept his hands on the plow, moving toward the prize; my husband’s legacy will last for generations to come.”
David was raised by his grandparents, the late great Rosa and Luther Harrison. He learned the teachings of Christ at an early age at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Hoffman, North Carolina. During his last year, his faith grew beyond the tradition of new, and he continued to keep the faith.
David was employed by Southern Products & Silica Company, where he worked as a re-washer. He retired after twenty years of service. He was active in his family and acted as a father to many children in the community. He had a heart of gold; if you walked past David, you were considered his friend. David was a softball coach for men and women for many years.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Davetta Horton; his grandmother, Rosa Harrison; his grandfather, Luther Harrison; his brothers, Carl McRae and Alonzo Mason; and a sister-in-law, Rachel Gibson.
Those left to cherish his memories, his wife, Barbara Gibson; eight children, Eric Horton (Frances) of Tyler, Texas, Wendell Horton (Christine) of Aberdeen, North Carolina, Claretta Truth (Justice) of Marston, North Carolina, Barbara Horton (Terry Brown) of Raeford, North Carolina; Cherry Gibson of Hoffman, North Carolina; Kendrick Gibson (Brittaney) of Middletown, Ohio, Stephanie Gibson (Tye Hinson) of South Carolina; and Cassandra Caviness (Shawn) of South Carolina; his mother, Margaret Harrison; his siblings, Larry Gibson (Theresa), George Gibson (Veronica), Jeffrey Gibson, Arthur Gibson (Terry), Andrew Gibson (Judy), Tracy Stroman (Jerry), Polly Gibson, Mack Harrison, Roland McRae and Tia Gibson; his grandchildren, Armaad Horton, Rashad Horton, Nkya Horton, Tamia Capel, Naimah Horton, Za’Navia Gibson, Ja’Tayvion Gibson, Ne’hemiah Gibson, Brycen Maynard, Jabari Williams, Jeremy Jones Jr., Ethan Gibson, Kazia Caviness and Kasen Gibson; his great-grandchildren, Cai’Nan Horton, Ahlonee Horton, Londyn Egerton and Khymari Horton; his godchildren, Carrasse Jasper, Tranice Gillis, Charlie Justice Jr., and Tren Thomas; a sister-in-law, Stacy Mason; his best friend, Maurice Ellerbe and a host of other relatives and friends.
