Mrs. Cynthia Celestine (Sutton) Wood, 86, of Southern Pines, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 08, 2026 at Pinehurst Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Cynthia Sutton Wood, 86, of Southern Pines, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 8, 2026. Born on October 9, 1939, to the late Henry Sutton Sr. and Helen Sutton, Cynthia was a lifelong resident of the community she loved.

After graduating from West Southern Pines High School, Cynthia served for over 40 years in the laundry department at Mid Pines Resort. She was known for her steadfast work ethic and deep roots in the Southern Pines area.

Faith was a cornerstone of her life. Cynthia was a devoted member of Revivals for Jesus Church in Vass, North Carolina, where she shared her musical talents as the church organist and served faithfully as the Church Secretary for many years.

Outside of her professional and church life, Cynthia found great joy in the simple pleasures of home. She was an avid baker and seamstress, and she took immense pride in her yard work. In her  retirement, she became known for her elaborate Christmas celebrations, dedicating her time to decorating her yard with lights and figurines that seemed to grow more magnificent each year.

Though she had no children of her own, Cynthia’s heart was whole as she helped care for and nurture a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Wood, her parents, and her siblings, Bertha Smith and Ruth Reynolds. 

She is survived by her brother, Henry Sutton Jr. of Southern Pines, and her sister, Lois Holbrook of Flint, Michigan.
