Crystal Cain-Thorne Obituary

Ms. Crystal Cain-Thorne, 53, of Sanford, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 11, 2025, at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Crystal Lynn Cain-Thorne, age 53, lovingly called “Crissy” by many and “CC” by others, was born on June 16th, 1971. She was a beautiful baby and a precious joy to be welcomed into the  family. She was the daughter of Deacon Robert Louis Cain, Sr., and Sister Martha Jane Williams Cain.

Crystal grew up in a Christian home with her siblings. She graduated from Western Harnett High School in 1989. She went on to continue her education by balancing class schedules and her  career. Her work experience included that of a Cosmetologist at Central Carolina Community College in Lillington, NC, a Substitute Teacher in Lee County Schools, NC; and a Dispatcher for the Sheriff’s Department in Charlotte, NC. She has been employed as an Administrative Specialist for the past eleven years with the North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services.

Crystal was family-oriented; she had a special relationship with her son, Sterlin, and was very proud of him. She also loved her younger cousins Angel, Talen, Terel, and Frankie as though they  were hers. Whenever possible, they would accompany her on trips. “Crissy” had a style of her own. Trends did not determine her signature outfits. She loved a mix of vintage and modern flairs, often with vibrant colors and patterns. She was classy with a sparkling smile.

In her earlier years, Crystal attended services at Pilgrim’s Rest Church, Inc., under the leadership of Elder (now Bishop) Perry Hester. Elder Billie W. Buie currently pastors the church. Later she attended New Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Edward N. Hooker. In November 2024, she reunited with New Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the  leadership of Reverend Douglas Waterson as a faithful member. She was very happy and would often say, “I am home now, so let’s get to work.”

Those left with many fond memories of Crystal are, her parents, Robert, Sr., and Martha; her son, Sterlin A. Cain; her brother, Robert L. Cain, Jr.; her sister, Lynn Y. Cain; her goddaughter and niece, Krista Cain and niece, Vanessa Hawkins; her great-nephew, Kylo Elix; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

Please keep the family and friends of Ms. Crystal Cain-Thorne in your thoughts and prayers.
