Mr. Courtney (Chuck) Freeman Brokenbrough, 91, of Southern Pines, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 7, 2023, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Mr. Courtney F. Brokenbrough was born on June 9th, 1932, to the late John Henry Brokenbrough Sr. and Sylvia Todd Brokenbrough in Wilmington, Delaware. He entered eternal rest at the age of ninety-one on July 7th, 2023, at FirstHealth/ Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
In his early years, Mr. Brokenbrough enlisted in the United States Army in 1950, serving in Japan and Korea during the late 1950s. He met and married Gertrude Henderson from Southern Pines, North Carolina, on May 4th, 1960, while stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. They have two children, Peggie Brokenbrough and the late Scott Brokenbrough. Following his marriage, Mr. Brokenbrough embarked on various military tours, including assignments in Germany and Vietnam. In 1972, after a distinguished military career, he retired from the United States Army at the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Throughout his life, Mr. Brokenbrough developed a keen interest in bowling, which initially sparked during his time in the military. Upon retiring, he turned his attention to golf and enjoyed playing the sport. Additionally, he was an active member of the Masonic organization, Cornerstone Lodge #68, dedicating many years of service to the lodge.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Peggie Brokenbrough; three brothers, Ronald Brokenbrough (Dorothy), Larry Brokenbrough (Vondra), and Thurmond Brokenbrough (Linda); three sisters, Barbara Saddler, Roselyn Summers, and Gwendolyn Tolliver; one aunt, Betty Todd; cousin and caretaker, Charles Henderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, wife, and son, Courtney was preceded in death by his brothers, Elwood (Brock) Brokenbrough, John Henry Brokenbrough Jr., Charles Brokenbrough, Raymond Brokenbrough, Granville Brokenbrough, and Baby Boy Brokenbrough; his sisters, Rebecca Benson, Valerie Brokenbrough, Deborah Edwards.
