Mr. Charles L. Sharpless, 74 of Sanford, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, North Carolina.

Charles was born Charles Leonard Currie on March 20, 1951, to the late Margie Monroe Walters and Edward Bradford Currie in Fort Bragg, NC. He was later adopted at the age of four by the  late Queenie and James Sharpless and raised in Chinquapin, NC, as Charles Linwood Sharpless.

Charles received his public education in Duplin County, NC. While in high school, he enjoyed baseball and basketball. After high school, he attended a bible college in Durham, NC. He then  moved to the east coast of NC, making cities like Manteo, Columbia, and Creswell his home.

Before retirement, Charles spent many years employed in the farming industry and as an auto mechanic. A few of his favorite pastimes were fishing, fixing cars, and enjoying the open road on his  scooter/moped.

Charles was preceded in death by his biological mother, Margie Monroe Walters, his biological father, Edward Bradford Currie, his adoptive mother, Queenie Sharpless, his adoptive father, James Sharpless, his brothers, Edward Currie III, Herman Walters, and Alfredrick Maurice Horton, and a sister, Brenda Walters Smith.

Those left to cherish fond memories of Charles are, his daughters, Angela Sharpless of Sanford, NC, Latisha Gethers of Ridgeville, SC, and Charlise Sharpless-Respass of Fayetteville, NC; one  son, Charles Angelo Sharpless (Rhonneshia) of Atlanta, GA; eight grandsons, Felix, Melvon, Cameron, CJ, Christian, Carter, Jeffrey Jr. and Kamari; three granddaughters, Kimora, Jordan, and Zymera; one sister,  Gena Kelly of Sanford, NC; five brothers, Stephen Horton (Cindy) of Charlotte, NC, James “Bunny” Bruton (Pam) of Sanford, Wilbert Bruton of NY, Billy Bruton (Dana) of Cameron, NC, and Gary McIntyre (Myra) of San Marcos, TX; two bonus daughters, Sharisse’ Mitchell and Deidra Smalls; and a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews and cousins.
