Carlton Bacon, Sr. Obituary

Mr. Carlton F. Bacon, Sr., 79, of Southern Pines, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at First Health Moore Regional in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Carlton Fredrick Bacon was born on June 13, 1943, to the late Beatrice Snow and John Allen Jackson. Carlton gained his celestial wings on January 28, 2023.

Carlton spent his childhood in Philadelphia, PA, and graduated from Bok Vocational and Technical High School. After High School, Carlton enlisted in the United States Army in 1960. During his tenure in the United States Army, Carlton found great success. A few of his many accolades include the United States Fifth Special Forces Group, colloquially known as the Green Berets, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and National Defense Medal, as well as several other honorable recognitions.

While stationed in Fort Bragg, NC, Carlton met the love of his life, the late Montiena Lucky Bacon, and ultimately settled in Southern Pines, NC.

After retiring from the military in 1983, Carlton decided to follow his passion for education and shaping the youth of tomorrow. Carlton’s posthigh school matriculation began at Sandhills Community College, where he received his Associate in Arts in 1987. Committed to excellence, Carlton gained his Bachelor of Science from the University Of North Carolina, Pembroke, in 1988 and his Master of Arts in Education in 1995. A pillar in his community, and a mighty force in the department of education, Carlton Bacon became well known as one of the few male African American educators in Moore County and the surrounding areas.

Carlton dedicated his life to helping others, especially children. After completing his time within the Moore County school system, Carlton and his family worked actively with the Moore County Department of Social Services, opening his home to foster children needing a loving and stable environment. Carlton also held the role of a MAPP Instructor, supplying training to those who wanted to learn how to create nurturing, stable, and effective foster environments.

Carlton and his family joined Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church of Southern Pines, NC, in 1982. During his time at Trinity, Carlton held various positions, including Steward, Associate Superintendent of the church’s scholastic institution, Board of Christian Education-Member, and Baritone on the Senior choir. In addition, some of his civic duties included Cub Master of Pack 802, Moore County NAACP, North Carolina Association of Educators, National Education Association, and the North Carolina Writing Fellows.

Of all his accolades, affiliations, and many positions, his proudest title was Father and Husband. With his wife, he handsomely and pridefully reared his children to be generous, astute, and effective members of society.

Carlton was preceded in death by his wife, Montiena Bacon, and his son Mikal Umar Bacon. As well as his three brothers and one sister.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Stephanie Bacon and Carlton Bacon Jr., both of Atlanta, GA, Kerry Bernard Bacon of Southern Pines, NC, Alfreida Derrick of Philadelphia, PA, Malcom Jerome Bacon of Southern Pines, NC, Keosha D. Bacon of Raleigh, NC and Alise Bacon of Southern Pines, NC; his grandchildren, Monique Bacon, Ariel Britton, Steven Ward, Bryce Bacon, NaKiah Kimbrough, Nariah Kimbrough, Andrew Snargrass, Stephon Derrick and Nasir Laney; his three great-grandchildren, Gabby, Xavier, and August; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a magnitude of special friends.
