Mrs. Callie Mae Richardson Melvin, 95, of Sanford, North Carolina, (formerly of Brooklyn, New York) entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at her residence.

Mrs. Callie Mae Richardson, one of four children, was born on August 3, 1928, to the late Ransom and Callie Richardson of Selma, North Carolina.

At the age of three, her family moved to New York. She was educated in the Brooklyn and Queens, New York public school systems. Upon completion of school, Callie enrolled in the Jewish  Nursing School in Brooklyn, New York, and began her work in Nursing.

Callie was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in New York for many years. She met her husband, Clayton Melvin Jr., through a mutual friend in New York; they married one year later in 1965.  One loving son, Mark Evanne Melvin, was born into their union. They raised their family in New York and, for decades, lived and worked there closer to Callie’s family.

In later years, Callie worked as a Dietician at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn (1969-1992). She enjoyed her career working with adults and children and was very dedicated to her profession.

Upon retirement, she remained in New York and enjoyed visiting and sharing mutual interests with friends and relatives in her community. She decided to relocate back to the south in her later  years to North Carolina and live with her son Mark. She enjoyed these years renewing acquaintances with in-laws, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Melvin Jr.; her parents, Ransom and Callie Richardson; and three brothers, Ransom Jr., James Richardson, and Mason Richardson. 

She  leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Mark; her grandson, Giovanni; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives.
