Mrs. Bernice (Nesmith) Washington, 79, of Cameron, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina. 

Mrs. Bernice Washington was born on January 15, 1945, in Williamsburg County, South Carolina, to the late Ben Nesmith, Marie Wilson, and Dell Nesmith, who raised her as their own daughter. She departed this life on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville, NC. Bernice attended Browns Public School in Williamsburg County, SC, and The Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Philadelphia, PA.

She found employment at General Bindery in Philadelphia, PA, a testament to her hard work and determination. She also found solace in her faith, accepting Christ as her personal savior and joining Grace Temple Baptist Church in Philadelphia.

Bernice was united in Holy Matrimony to Willie Washington on July 22, 1978. This union blessed them with one beautiful daughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie “Bill” Washington, her father, Ben Nesmith, her mother, Marie Wilson, and Dell Nesmith, who raised her as her own daughter, her brothers, Lawrence Porchea Jr. and Furman Wilson, and her sister, Luvenia Scott.

Bernice leaves to cherish her fond memories her loving daughter, Clara Washington (Dennis) who loved and cared for her daily along with her three grandchildren, Nashir, Jahmir and Daijah; a bonus grandchild, Khairi; her sisters, Katie Watts of Andrews, SC, Elmira Nesmith of Philadelphia, PA, Eva Bradley (James) of Nesmith, SC, Christine Hamilton (Ronnell) of Nesmith, SC, Mary Lee Dozier of Georgetown, SC, Maebell Johnson of Georgetown, SC, and Elizabeth Pressley (Wendell) of Georgetown, SC; her brothers, Benjamin Nesmith, Jr. of Nesmith, SC, and Joe Nesmith (Rebecca) of Andrews, SC; uncles, Joshway Nesmith of Dellwyn VA, and Mark Nesmtih of New Jersey; aunts, Lula Wilson of Nesmith, SC, Pearl Billve of Williamstown, NJ, and Virginia Newsmith of Naples, FL; a brother-in-law, Lee Scott of Kingstree, SC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
