Barnita Marie Lanier

Ms. Barnita Marie Lanier, 72 of Sanford, North Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Liberty Commons Health & Rehabilitation of Sanford, North Carolina.

Barnita Marie Lanier was born on February 28, 1949 to the late McKinnley and Mae Belle Minter. She departed this life on August 28, 2021.

Barnita was educated in the Lee County School System. She attended Osgood Elementary School and W. B. Wicker High School.

Barnita was an active and faithful member of New Endland A.M.E. Zion Church, singing in the choir and sometimes solo until her health declined. During her early years, she sang with Pastor Shirley Caesar of Durham, NC. Also, singing with the "Melanettes," which was with her mother, two sisters, and others. Later, Barnita sang with the "House of Prayer" from Fuquay Varina, NC, where her 1st single, "God Cares," was debuted. In addition, she sang in numerous choirs and groups in the surrounding cities.

Barnita worked in the Lee County School System Cafeteria for many years. She was known in the community for singing and cooking, never meeting a stranger.

Barnita was preceded in death by two sisters, Marcelene Minter and Priscilla Minter Williams, and a faithful and loving Aunt Mattie Williams.

Barnita leaves to cherish her memories a son, Dwight Minter (Tina) of Sanford, NC; a daughter, Chelsea Lanier of Sanford, NC; five grandchildren, Alyia Williams, Madaesia Fisher (Pookie), Asia Minter, Mya Minter, and Jayda Green; one great-grandson, Justice Rasheed Forte Paduan; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
